Cette nouvelle édition représente une amélioration considérable par rapport à la précédente. Dans un premier temps, des centaines de mots vieillis ou tombés en désuétude ont été éliminés afin de faire place aux nombreux termes qui manquaient à l'ouvrage ou qui ont été créés au cours des cinq dernières années, des termes modernes, souvent introuvables dans d'autres ouvrages de référence, et même, dans bien des cas, dans les grands dictionnaires monolingues. En même temps, aidé en cela par de nombreux usagers du dictionnaire, l'auteur a éliminé les inévitables erreurs de la quatrième édition.
