As the need for mental health services has grown, the number of psychiatrists has declined, leaving a gap that has lately been filled, in part, by Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (P.M.H.-A.P.R.N.s). The Manual of Clinical Psychopharmacology for Nurses is designed to serve as both an academic textbook and a reference book for these nurses as well as mental health practitioners, general practitioners, and consumers. Each chapter is devoted to a specific category of mental disorders, guiding the reader through the pertinent symptoms while offering a holistic perspective unique to nursing. The book is further enriched by snapshots of prescribing for various treatment populations, pharmacogenomic information to guide personalization of medication therapies, and rating scales to quantify the impact of psychopharmacological interventions on the individual's treatment. The first and only psychopharmacology text specifically aimed at educating P.M.H.-A.P.R.N.s, Manual of Clinical Psychopharmacology for Nurses merges the fundamentals of medication treatment in common psychiatric disorders with the therapeutic approach of the nursing field in general to create a comprehensive, thoughtful, and exceedingly useful resource.

Psychotropes ; Pharmacologie pédiatrique ; Maladies mentales - Chimiothérapie

Many psychotropic drugs are used to treat childhood and adolescent mental illness on the basis of efficacy in adults, despite not being currently approved for use in the young. The lack of approval does not necessarily reflect lack of safety or efficacy, but it does reflect a lack of controlled studies. The Clinical Handbook of Psychotropic Drugs for Children and Adolescents is a unique resource to help you make the right choice for younger patients :
Independent, unbiased
Unique comparison charts (dosages, side effects, pharmacokinetics, interactions…) that allow you to see at a glance which medication is the most suitable for each patient
Instantly recognizable icons and full color throughout
Compiles the latest information from the published literature (scientific data, controlled clinical trials, case reports) and clinical experience in one easy-to-use reference
Includes monograph statements on use in children and adolescents and approved indications, as well as available data concerning off-label indications, findings from open and double-blind studies concerning doses, adverse effects, and other considerations
Succinct, bulleted information on all classes of medication: classification, available products (including US and Canadian trade names), on- and off-label indications (US FDA and Health Canada); pharmacology, dosing, pharmacokinetics; adverse effects, precautions, contraindications, toxicity; lab tests, precautions, nursing implications; drug interactions; patient and caregiver instructions... Psychotropes ; Chimiothérapie ; Pharmacologie

This book fulfils an urgent need for an updated text on pediatric psychopharmacology. It takes a unique approach in discussing recent findings within the context of current issues, including economic and political ones. The book covers the emerging question of treating children who do not yet meet diagnostic criteria for psychosis, e.g, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, but who are deemed to be at high risk. This is an active area of debate: such children are being treated in certain centers, while others reject this completely. The book addresses the antidepressant controversy, the placebo response and unique strategies for delineating this, and ways to optimize the differential between active medication and placebo. It reviews the impact of recent American Heart Association guidelines for monitoring children on stimulants and other psychotropics. It adheres closely to DSM-IV diagnostic criteria throughout. The book describes the use of newly approved drugs such as Lexapro for treating adolescent depression and the novel compound Intuniv. It covers the TADS and CAMS studies, which evaluated the use of SSRIs alone and in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy for adolescent depression. Other topics include treatment of bipolar disorders, the increasing popularity of generic equivalents, combination pharmacotherapy and the potential dangers of psychotropic medications.

Neuropsychopharmacologie ; Psychotropes ; Neurostimulants ; Psychopharmacologie

This third edition of Essentials of Psychopharmacology is, like its predecessors, based on the premier textbook in the field, The American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Psychopharmacology, now in its fourth edition. The Essentials format is designed to deliver core knowledge to the busy trainee or practitioner in a succinct and accessible manner. Essentials of Psychopharmacology provides a complete overview of clinically focused pharmacotherapeutic principles of vital interest to psychiatry residents, primary care physicians, and other health care professionals. Updated with the latest research findings since the publishing of the fourth edition of the Textbook, the Essentials features new chapters on recently introduced medications and updated chapters on others. The book is divided into two parts: Classes of Psychiatric Treatments, which systematically reviews psychotropic medications within each drug class (e.g., antidepressants and anxiolytics, antipsychotics), and Psychopharmacological Treatment, which outlines current pharmacotherapeutic approaches in the major psychiatric disorders as well as in specific patient populations. Although the latter part has been streamlined in this new edition, coverage of critical information such as approved indications, drug interactions, side effects, and other prescribing factors remains comprehensive. Clinicians seeking a reliable reference and guide to the core knowledge base and practice of clinical psychopharmacology can do no better than this new edition of Essentials of Psychopharmacology.
